Qualifications for the post
1. First or High Second Class Master’s degree (above 55% marks), preferably with
M.Phil. Or Ph. D.
2. Research experience for at least ten years.
3. Some administrative experience.
4. Evidence of interest in Gandhian Studies.
5. Age not above 65.
NOTE: Any of these qualifications can be relaxed
in the case of an otherwise suitable candidate.
Honorarium
Honorarium will be fixed keeping in view the qualifications of the person
selected as Director and his present emoluments, subject to a maximum of Rs.
30,000 plus Rs. 5000 for conveyance or use of staff car.

Shri B. R. Nanda on 30 May 2010 at New Delhi.
Shri Nanda (b. 1917) was the Chairman of National Gandhi Museum from
2001 to 2008..Apart from this, he was a renowned author of more than
20 books on Gandhi, Nehru, Gokhale, Jinnah etc. He was a member of
the Indian Historical Records Commission, a Trustee of Gandhi Smarak
Nidhi and Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund and Chief Editor of the
‘Collected Works of Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant’ (18 Volumes) and the
‘Collected Works of Lala Lajpat Rai (15 Volumes)

Acharya Rammurty
on 20 May 2010 at Patna.
Acharya Rammurty was one of the icons of
the Gandhian Movement. He was actively associated with Vinoba and J.
P. J. P. nominated him as his second-in-command of the Bihar
movement. From 1941 to 1954, Acharyaji taught History at the Queen’s
College, Varanasi. Later on, under the influence of Acharya
Kripalani and Dhirendra Majumdar, he moved to Shram-Bharati at Jamui
in Munger District of Bihar. V.P. Singh’s government appointed him
the Chairman of a Review Committee on New Education Policy.

Mahadev
Desai, the de-facto Secretary of Mahatma Gandhi from 1917 to
1942 can be called the shadow of Gandhiji and his right
hand. He used to record meticulously Gandhiji’s views,
dialogues, speeches, articles etc. in his ‘Diary’. Starting
the first ‘Diary’ on November 13, 1917, he continued writing
it till the day before his death, i.e. August 14, 1942.
National
Gandhi Museum has undertaken the task of translating the
Diaries from Gujarati to English and Hindi and publish them
gradually.
Volume
19 now published, in English, covers the period of the
continued controversy over the Communal Award (1932), the
foundation of the Congress Socialist Party and Mahatma
Gandhi’s resignation from the primary membership of the
Congress.
Earlier, in English, one Volume was published by Navajivan
Publishing House, Ahmedabad and nine by Sarva Seva Sangh,
Varanasi.
This
volume significantly enhances our understanding of Gandhi’s
general outlook.
